Playful Minds offers social emotional learning groups to children and their families. With a focus on positive communication and mindful behaviors, groups are designed to help participants develop strong mental and physical health while keeping families engaged and having fun!
Mindfulness for Families
Mindfulness can be defined as attending to the here and now with kindness and curiosity. Mindfulness for Families groups draw upon a variety of resources including the MindUp curriculum, the work of Susan Kaiser Greenland (The Mindful Child), and others to teach families strategies for calming emotions, focusing attention, thinking optimistically, practicing kindness, enjoying life, and improving their relationship skills as they interact with others and help their community.
Families can expect to learn about basic brain functioning and how to more deeply engage in the present moment. Games, crafts, stories, family meditations, and engaging experiences help keep the themes of mindfulness relevant and embedded in family life.
Groups are designed for families with children (up to age 12) to attend together. Any combination of siblings, parents, or even grandparents are welcome to attend together.
I'm excited to announce that family workshops will be offered occasionally. Follow me on Facebook to learn about current offerings.
I am available to run a mindfulness group for your homeschool co-op or after school gathering. Please contact me for more information.
About the Instructor
Kim Kelly, Owner
In 1998, I received my M.S. and Ed.S. degrees in Counseling and Human Systems from Florida State University. I have over twelve years experience as a school counselor at the elementary and middle school levels and am a member of the American School Counselor Association. My background includes volunteer work as a La Leche League leader and Girls on the Run instructor. I love working directly with children, teaching resiliency and communication skills designed to last a lifetime. I'm a proud mother of two energetic children, enjoy running, photography, playing outdoors with my family, and climbing the walls at our family’s rock gym (Beaches Rock Gym).
