Hi, I'm Kim with Playful Minds. Although I am not currently offering any in-person groups this year, I want to remain a resource to families who are interested in incorporating mindfulness into their homes. Through resources and my blog, I hope to continue to offer parents and their children inspiration, encouragement, and ideas on their mindfulness journey.
Mindfulness for Families
Mindfulness can be defined as attending to the here and now with kindness and curiosity. Through mindfulness, families learn strategies for calming emotions, focusing attention, thinking optimistically, practicing kindness, enjoying life, and improving their relationship skills as they interact with others and help their community.
Mindfulness is a wonderful platform to teach children about basic brain functioning and how to more deeply engage in the present moment. Games, crafts, stories, family meditations, and engaging experiences help keep the themes of mindfulness relevant and embedded in family life.
In 1998, I received my M.S. and Ed.S. degrees in Counseling and Human Systems from Florida State University. I have over fourteen years experience as a school counselor at the elementary and middle school levels and am a member of the American School Counselor Association. My background includes volunteer work as a La Leche League leader and Girls on the Run instructor. I love working with children and families, teaching resiliency and communication skills designed to last a lifetime. I'm a proud mother of two energetic children. I enjoy running, visiting North Carolina, and playing outdoors with my family.
While I am not currently running mindfulness groups, I will be taking the time to pour energy into my other passion, photography.
